Two dead in broad daylight shootings in New York; one near the main police headquarters

Two men were shot to death in the middle of the afternoon yesterday within an hour of each other in public housing buildings in New York City.

The first of the shootings happened a few steps from the main headquarters of the NYPD police, in Lower Manhattan. In that case, the victim was a 21-year-old man who was shot twice in the chest and another in the leg inside 15 St James Place at “Governor Alfred E. Smith Houses” around 2:50 pm

That NYCHA public housing complex is located across the street from One Police Plaza. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, where she died.

Less than an hour later, around 3:30 p.m., a man was shot in the head. frente a Marcy Houses (NYCHA) en Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, according to the police. He was not identified and at the moment there was no more information available, reported New York Post.

Police were looking for videos and witnesses in both cases. No arrests have been made or suspects identified. Following the rise in shootings in 2020 and 2021, particularly among young gang members and/or victims, 2022 has maintained the same trend. In many cases, gunmen use “ghost” weapons, so called because they lack serial numbers to be traced and are usually homemade.

Young people are increasingly protagonists in gun violence in New York as victims and perpetrators, particularly shootings and attacks with white weapons. A recent NYPD report found that recidivism among teens has increased dramatically over the past five years.
