A man is struck and killed by a Manhattan train while trying to grab something from the tracks


A man was struck by a Manhattan subway train Sunday when he dropped something on the tracks and went down to pick it up again, according to police.

The man, who authorities have not identified, was standing on a platform for the E train downtown at the 42nd Street Port Authority Bus Terminal station about 8:50 a.m., officials said. officials.

Shortly before the train entered the subway station, he went down to the tracks to grab something he had dropped, officers said.

The train hit him, killing him instantly.

“It wasn’t pretty,” recalled an agent at the station Sunday afternoon.

Following the victim’s death, downtown E trains operated express from 42nd Street to the World Trade Center, while downtown C trains did the same from 59th-Columbus Street to Chambers Street, the MTA announced.
