Attacker with a machete attacked two people and confronted the police on a New York street


An NYPD officer shot a man wielding a 20-inch machete and a large knife in self-defense in the middle of the street in Brooklyn yesterday.

According to police officials, the shooting occurred in the neighborhood East New York in the 200 block of New Lots Avenue, shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday, reported NBC News.

Police were searching for the suspect after allegedly assaulted a family member and a 58-year-old health assistant in separate incidents that same dayaccording to NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey.

Officers found the suspect sitting on the steps outside his home. on New Lots Avenue, Maddrey said. An NYPD lieutenant approached him and yelled his name.

In response, the suspect allegedly got up and He approached the officer with a machete and a meat cleaver in each hand, according to the police. The officer told him to drop the bladed weapons he was holding, but he refused to comply, Maddrey said.

“As the male advanced on the lieutenant and approached, the lieutenant fired two rounds from his weapon, striking the man in the groin/thigh area,” Maddrey continued, quoted by Pix11.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. The machete and knife were recovered at the scene, according to mugshots.

NYPD later broadcast a live report on the incident on Twitter.
